Description
About this song:
Christmas Magic is all about sharing the magic of Christmas with the people around you. It’s full of energy and excitement as everyone comes together to celebrate the season with singing and dancing. Looking up into the sky in search of Christmas magic, we suddenly find ourselves in a distant land full of snow-covered Christmas trees, shooting stars and flying reindeer!
Teaching notes:
Can you think of a moment when you’ve felt most excited about Christmas coming? Summon up that feeling when you’re singing this song and then share it with the audience to help them feel the excitement of Christmas.
This song is full of drama, below are some notes to help you capture it:
– Start off softly, you’re thinking about sharing the secret of Christmas magic with the audience.
– When you sing, “just look up tonight”, think about the magic of looking at the stars at Christmas.
– The first time you sing “beating a drum”, give it lots of energy. Clap your hands after “this Christmas will come as a rhythm”, then stamp your feet after “this Christmas will come as we’re dancing”. Start with your right leg, then switch between both of your legs. Think about celebrating Christmas with lots of singing and dancing.
– The second time you sing “beating a drum”, summon as much energy and joy as you can! The “holding your hand” is a little softer and full of warmth, like being by a fire at Christmas time with people who are special to you.
– “Fir and pine and evergreen” is soft and magical. Think about a green, snowy, magical forest in a far-off land. You can get more dramatic and louder through “treetops sway”. Imagine a huge, powerful forest with snow covered Christmas trees.
– “Lift your eyes and you’ll see flying reindeer fill the skies” should be dramatic and powerful, think about how you’d feel if you saw flying reindeer. It should have a sense of magical wonder! Take a big, deep breath here so you can sing powerfully through the long, flying melodies.
– “Look above the chimneys” should be joyful and full of excitement and energy.
– From “you’ll find Christmas magic” at the very end, it gets quieter and more thoughtful, with the sense that you have shared the secret of the magic of Christmas.
Have fun, enjoy it and show us what Christmas magic means to you through your performance.
